Like other car insurance companies, Liberty Mutual offers the following basic types of car insurance:
Liability car insurance
This pays for injuries and property damage you accidentally cause to others in a car accident. See the article : What is a good score for insurance?. Automobile liability insurance also covers legal fees and court rulings or settlements if you are sued due to a car accident.
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage
Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage helps pay for your medical expenses and those of your passengers and damage to your car if an uninsured driver hits you. Read also : How auto insurance claims are deposited. Unified Messaging is required in some states and optional in others (you can opt out of coverage in writing). Underinsured motorist coverage helps you pay for your medical expenses and those of your passengers and damage to your car if a driver without insufficient liability insurance hits you.
Medical payments
Medical payments coverage pays for necessary medical expenses for you and your passengers injured in a car accident, regardless of fault. Read also : Does your credit score affect your car insurance?. It is usually sold in small quantities ($1,000 to $5,000). This coverage is also known as MedPay and is not available in all states.
Personal injury protection
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) insurance pays you and your passengers’ medical expenses if you are injured in a car accident, regardless of fault. PIP also pays for lost wages and includes replacement services if you cannot perform regular household chores such as cleaning.
PIP is required in 15 states, optional in four states and Washington D.C., and unavailable in the remaining states.
Collision insurance
Collision insurance pays to repair or replace your car if it is damaged in a car accident or a collision with another object, such as a fence or a tree. Collision insurance pays regardless of fault.
Comprehensive insurance
Comprehensive coverage pays to repair or replace your vehicle if it is stolen or damaged by fire, vandalism, flood, hail and other severe weather, falling objects or collision with an animal.
Additional Liberty Mutual Car Insurance Options
Liberty Mutual auto insurance offers various coverage features that you can choose to add to expand your coverage:
Accident forgiveness
Optional accident forgiveness coverage prevents your rates from increasing after your first accident. You must be accident-free and violation-free within the last five years to qualify for Liberty Mutual’s accident forgiveness coverage.
Diminishing deductible
Your auto insurance deductible is the amount subtracted from your claim check when you make a collision or property and casualty insurance claim. Liberty Mutual offers a decreasing franchise through its franchise fund. The deductible fund allows drivers to reduce their deductible amount by $100 each year.
If you participate in the deductible fund, you will pay $30 per year and, in return, Liberty Mutual will reduce your deductible by $100 each year. If you make a claim, your deductible is reduced by the balance of your deductible fund.
For example, let’s say you have a deductible of $500 and you have an accident after participating in the deductible fund for three years. Your deductible is reduced to $200 because your deductible fund covers the remaining $300.
Gap insurance
If you lease or finance your car, Liberty Mutual offers gap insurance. If your car is destroyed or stolen, gap insurance pays the difference between the value of your car and the loan or lease amount you still owe.
New car replacement
Liberty Mutual is offering new car replacement coverage for drivers buying a new car. If your car is destroyed or stolen within the first year of ownership or before it has driven 15,000 miles, this coverage provides money to buy a new car of the same make and model. Without a new car replacement, you would be paid an amount equal to the value of your vehicle just before the accident, minus your deductible.
If your car is a year old or older, you can purchase a “better replacement car”. This benefit earns you enough money to replace your totaled car with a newer car that is one model year old and 15,000 miles less.
Lifetime repair guarantee
A lifetime repair warranty comes standard with a Liberty Mutual car insurance policy. Car repairs following an accident or incident covered by your policy are guaranteed for as long as you own the car if you use a Liberty Mutual repair network workshop to repair your car. Other benefits include Liberty Mutual paying the store directly for repairs and your ability to track repair progress on Liberty Mutual’s app.
Original parts replacement
Original Parts Replacement coverage allows you to replace damaged components with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts for an incident covered by your Collision or Comprehensive coverage. If OEM parts are unavailable or no longer in production, Liberty Mutual auto insurance will pay for comparable or reconditioned parts.
Rental car reimbursement
If your car is in the garage for repairs due to an accident or other issue covered by your auto insurance policy, rental reimbursement coverage takes care of your rental car.
Coverage varies by state and comes with daily limits. If you use an approved repair shop and let Liberty Mutual take care of the car rental, coverage will pay until the repairs are complete. Otherwise, you may be limited on how long you can keep the rental car.
Roadside assistance
Liberty Mutual’s optional 24-hour roadside assistance coverage can help if your car breaks down. Also called towing & labor coverage, it pays for: towing to a repair center, battery jump starts, flat tire changes, emergency fuel delivery and assistance with unlocking doors.
Liberty Mutual Customized Car Insurance for Teachers

Liberty Mutual Pay-Per-Mile Auto Insurance

Liberty Mutual RightTrack Program
Drivers who adopt good driving habits can save 5% to 30% on their auto insurance by participating in Liberty Mutual’s RightTrack usage-based insurance program, the company says.
RightTrack monitors driving practices such as braking, night driving, acceleration, and mileage for a 90-day review period. You must travel more than 125 miles during your exam period to collect enough data for your final discount. You receive an initial discount, usually 10%, just for signing up. Be aware that if your final discount is lower than your initial discount, you will be invoiced for the difference.
New York drivers must plug in a device for RightTrack to monitor their driving. RightTrack uses a smartphone app in other states. Availability of RightTrack varies by state.
